Excellence Through Systematic Management

In many ways systematic management is a tautology, and yet it is surprising how many managers think that management can take place unsystematically - people who believe they can reliably influence outcomes without controlling, or in many cases even understanding, the patterns and processes that result in that outcome.
And it is perhaps even more surprising how many of them get away with it - where either the patterns are sufficiently stable for failure still to be an aberration, or where their own thinking patterns have almost subconsciously attuned themselves to what is happening (or perhaps because their reporting processes V conveniently obscure the real issues).
But the rate of change is increasing, and aberrations are becoming more common, and it is easy for 'intuition' to fall out of synch with the underlying factors. And increasingly 'unsystematic managers' are finding they call it wrong. And with increasing levels of measurement and accountability they will find it more and more difficult to ignore the fact.
Tesseract's answer is to make the systematic nature of management more explicit, and to support managers in being more systematic through simple tools and methodologies.
We advocate six basic principles:

Purpose: Ensure a clear understanding of how value is added to the customer (snapshot)

Philosophy: Ensure a consistent set of values which are commonly shared (snapshot)

People: Systematically develop and harness the potential of people (snapshot)

Process: Consciously and professionally design and develop all processes (snapshot)

Predict: Establish the data flows to invoke responsibility and enable accurate decisions (snapshot)

Perfect: Have a clear strategy to monitor and improve all of the above. (snapshot)

Together these principles can transform your management performance (quotes), and thereby your organisational performance, and our work at Tesseract is entirely focused on helping organisations fully adopt these principles.
You could however, be forgiven for thinking that we also have a fixation with QFD, given its prominence on this site. In a practical sense we have, and for good reason. While we appreciate that QFD is simply one tool in a vast armoury of systematic approaches, its practical impact (case studies) on the application of these principles in the early stages of adopting a systematic approach is unequalled.
